There is a growing body of scientific research into Mindfulness, meditation and MBSR. The graph below shows the growing research into Mindfulness, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Scientific Research into Mindfulness
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction has shown consistent, reliable, and reproducible major and clinically relevant reductions in medical and psychological symptoms across a wide range of medical and psychological diagnoses. It has been recognised by the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as an evidenced based program through the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. (Note: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy are two other programs recognised by the National Registry.)
A useful collection of the scientific research is found at the American Mindfulness Research Association. It is a comprehensive electronic resource and publication database available to researchers, practitioners and the general public alike. Interested in receiving monthly summaries of the research? If you are interested in staying up to date with the research into mindfulness you might want to think of subscribing to the Mindfulness Research Monthly.
